Melbourne Cup Day, Brisbane: ‘50s style dominates Fashions on Field

Melbourne Cup Day, Brisbane: ‘50s style dominates Fashions on Field
FASHIONABLE fillies trackside at Doomben in Brisbane today proved one thing for sure: the ’50s are back.
Full, calf-skimming skirts nipped in at the waist and in classic vintage fabrics and lace were favoured by Fashions on the Field contestants, with first place going to a form-fitting lilac frock with a white collar worn by Glenore Grove resident Amy Zischke.
I’ve entered before, but for this to happen on race day is a dream come true,” Zischke, 36, told The Courier-Mail after her win, adding she bought her dress for less than $100 online.
“I’m not about the designer brands, I think you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look good.”
Runner-up was Alyse-Grace Jenner, 29, in clashing prints and a 50s-style skirt and top combo.
Outside the fashion tent, outfits were less traditional, with jumpsuits, crowns and plenty of skin on show.
