A REDDIT user has uploaded a chilling note found by a friend in an unopened box of Naturalizer shoes.The note appears to show a labour worker seated, with non-English writing scrawled underneath.According to the poster, Samson_says, the shoes were made in Ethiopia.
Reddit user knuckles 215 claims to have translated the message, saying it means: “We are thirsty and over worked. Militia type soldiers are on top of each other watching us. Help us.” The same user claims the picture is of an Ethiopian lady wearing traditional headgear.
In a similar vein, user ghostinahumanshape claims it translates to words like “hungry”, “depressed”, “afraid” and “soldiers/killed/death/family”, concluding with “help.”
This user claimed it was possible the writer had “very poor writing skills”.
Thousands of users have commented on the post. As Reddit is no stranger to hoaxes, some believe it’s an elaborate prank. Others have made light of it, jokingly claiming it translates to “Be sure to drink your ovaltine” or “check out my mixtape fam”. Still, others are urging that American authorities be contacted.
