Asylum seekers reportedly flee Indonesian immigration detention, after a failed bid to sail to Australia
ELEVEN asylum seekers have reportedly fled Indonesian immigration detention, where they were held after a failed bid to sail to Australia.
The 11 Bangladeshi men were among a group of 18 people, also from Pakistan and India, found floating off Cianjur, West Java, on September 23.
They had set out for Christmas Island but were hampered by big waves, and they floated for three days without fuel before local fishermen found them.

Sukabumi Immigration Office head of immigration supervision Whisnu Galih Priawan told reporters on Monday they were in fact searching for 12 people.
One Bangladeshi man escaped last month, while the 11 broke a window and climbed over the rear wall in the early hours of Monday, Republika Online reported.
The group was being held in detention temporarily while better accommodation was found, the official told reporters.
