ENGLAND could be set for a long day in the field after Pakistan once again won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry deck in the second Test in Dubai.
Alastair Cook’s men bounced back from two energy-sapping days in the Abu Dhabi heat to almost win the first Test and will be hoping to go one better this time around, against a Pakistan side that received a huge boost with the return of Yasir Shah to its XI.
The leg-spinner, who grew up idolising Shane Warne, was missing from the first Test side but has recovered from an injury to come in for paceman Rahat Ali.
Younis Khan made 56 and Shan Masood hit 54 for Pakistan, while James Anderson, Moeen Ali, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes all claimed a wicket apiece.
Meanwhile in Colombo, West Indies’ pace attack rattled the Sri Lanka top order and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican mopped up the middle order and tail in the second Test.
Warrican finished with 4/67 from 20 overs, while Jerome Taylor and captain Jason Holder grabbed two wickets each. Kemar Roach and Devendra Bishoo picked up one apiece.
Milinda Siriwardana was the only batsman to offer any defiance, hitting 68.
India won the toss and elected to bat against South Africa in the fourth one-day international in Chennai, the final match of tonight’s trifecta of cricket.
It is a game MS Dhoni’s side has to win to keep the five-match series alive afterlosing the first and third ODIs of the series and winning the second.
