Twitter may let users go beyond 140-character limit

Twitter may let users go beyond 140-character limit
TWITTER’S most sacred cow may soon get gored.
The social network is weighing whether to scrap its 140-character limit on tweets — a basic stricture that has increasingly divided users and investors alike as the company searches for growth.
Co-founder and interim Chief Executive Jack Dorsey — who may soon be named permanent CEO despite keeping his role at the helm of mobile-payments processor Square — is leading the project, codenamed “140-plus,” the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Twitter execs are split on how to raise the limit and by how much, with some advocating raising it by as few as 10 or so characters, the newspaper reported.
Another camp advocates developing a “rich publishing platform,” it added.
The move comes as Twitter searches for ways to build its stagnant active user base, which has hovered above 300 million.
