Tough day for auctioneers as heat stifles buyers

Tough day for auctioneers as heat stifles buyers
IT WAS a tough day yesterday for Brisbane auctioneers with potential buyers remaining quiet in the sweltering heat.
A stone’s throw from first Test action at the Gabba, a crowd of about 20 people gathered to watch a renovated Queenslander at 71 Norman St go under the hammer.
As the first ball of the day was bowled, opening bids were called at $1 million before the East Brisbane property was passed in at $1.1 million.

The sellers said they weren’t exactly knocked for six by the response.
“Some people don’t like auctions, we understand that but we just thought we’d try and see where the market’s at.
“There’s been quite a bit of interest and so we are still comfortable we’ll sell post-auction.
“We remain confident because a lot of people who may have seen it may not be in the position to buy at auction.”
Three times as many people turned up to watch 22 Sirius St, Coorparoo go under the hammer, many of them locals keen to gauge the worth of their neighbouring property.
After bidding faltered at $2.55 million and negotiations took place, the dream home was passed in at $2.7 million.

Also at noon, a renovated 1970s home at The Gap was passed in. The owner of 7 Cheppen St, Lee-Anne Barnhill, said it obviously wasn’t the outcome they were after.
“I was hiding downstairs avoiding the whole thing. Half of me is disappointed but the other half is ‘phew, I don’t have to move and I love this house’.”
At Camp Hill, there wasn’t a peep from the two registered bidders at the auction of a sprawling four-level home.
51 Indus St, Camp Hill

It was the first time in 40 years, 51 Indus St had hit the market and just the one vendor bid of $1.375 million was heard before auctioneer Peter Burgin called it a day.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom, at Ashgrove five registered bidders battled for 60 Kinnaird St which sold under the hammer for $940,000.
Perched high on 15 Jordan Tce at Bowen Hills, a grand family home with development opportunities sold for $1.890 million after six bidders registered.
While at Ascot, three registered bidders were keen on a classic Queenslander at 129 Towers St which eventually went for $1.4 million.
There were a few mixed results up north where 42 Balyarta Cres, Mooloolaba sold over reserve for $497,500 but in Townsville, 113 Yarrawonga Drive at Castle Hill was passed in at $780,000.
