‘Cosby Show’ Son Malcolm-Jamal Warner Clarifies “Legacy Tarnished” Remarks

 

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who played Bill Cosby’s son Theo on “The Cosby Show,” appeared on Friday’s “The View,” where he clarified negative comments he had made about the sitcom. Watch the video below!

In an interview with the Associated Press last week, Warner said the legacy of “The Cosby Show” had been “tarnished” as a result of the numerous rape allegations against Cosby. But when “View” co-host Joy Behar asked him to elaborate, the actor explained, “Of course it can’t help but be tarnished, because it’s no longer on the air. It’s been pulled off the air.” Behar responded that there are plenty of good shows that no longer air on TV, but Warner cited the difference being that “The Cosby Show” reruns were pulled as a direct result of the controversy.

However, Warner went on to reference a recent interview with his “Cosby Show” sister Keshia Knight Pulliam, in which she said that Cosby’s current sex scandal hasn’t effected the show’s iconic status. Warner explained, “Her perspective is the legacy cannot be taken away because all of the good that that show has done, cannot be taken away.” He further recalled her saying, “‘The generation of people of color who have chosen to go to college because they watched that show… you can’t take that away.’ And I think that was a really good point.”

Also during the interview, Warner and co-host Raven-Symone, who played Olivia on the series, reminisced about the good experiences they had making the show. “That’s a show that we’re all very proud to have been on,” Warner.
