Liberal Trudeau Sweeps To Power As Canada's PM

Justin Trudeau has been elected as Canadian Prime Minister, bringing the Conservatives' decade-long government under Stephen Harper to an end.
The Liberal Party leader, 43, is the second-youngest premier in the country's history and the son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau.
Although some results are yet to be counted, Mr Trudeau has won a majority of the 338 seats in Canada's parliament.
It is a remarkable feat considering the Liberals had suffered their worst electoral result in 2011, winning just 34 seats.
Mr Trudeau has vowed to raise taxes on the highest earners, and also plans to run a budget deficit for the next three years in a bid to increase government spending, invest in infrastructure and trigger economic growth.
The change in government is also expected to help Canada's relationship with the US as Mr Harper had clashed regularly with the Obama administration over the Keystone XL pipeline.

However, the Liberals also plan to withdraw Canada from the current combat mission being waged against Islamic State in the Middle East - shifting the focus onto humanitarian aid in the region.
