Perth man Daniel Evans, 24, was taken to hospital early on Thursday morning with serious injuries and later died.
Police said that Daniel was on holiday in Bali with his girlfriend and the girlfriend’s son, the girlfriend’s mother, and two other male friends.
On Wednesday, the group had hung out together and then Daniel and one of his friends went to a tattoo studio.
They drank alcohol, Jim Beam, which they had brought from Australia in front of the tattoo studio. Daniel had the word “DANIEL” tattooed on his left hand.
Daniel then left his friend and then went back to the to hotel by himself, as his friend’s tattoo wasn’t finished. He was reported to have been drunk when he got back to the hotel.
Police said when he arrived at the hotel, his girlfriend saw him at the hotel lobby and led him as he was drunk. He sat down in a chair in front of his room, while his girlfriend went to take her son into her room.
As she left, Daniel apparently smashed into the glass of the room.
He was then taken to Siloam Hospital. An artery in his right arm had been cut.
Police said he was treated in Siloam Hospital for several hours and was then taken to Sanglah Hospital. He died in the ambulance on the way from Siloam to Sanglah Hospital at about midnight.
Police have questioned six witnesses, including hotel staff, his girlfriend and mother of the girlfriend.
Denpasar police chief, Anak Agung Made Sudana, said his body is now at the Sanglah morgue.
Kuta Police chief, Ida Bagus Deddy Januartha, said Daniel’s family was expected in Bali on Friday.
Police are waiting to find out if the family wants an autopsy conducted in Bali. They were expected to question two more of Daniel’s friends today.
A friend of Evans’, Olivia Branson, said on Facebook that she had spent the day with Evans and his girlfriend Chelsey Graham and still can’t believe what happened.
“RIP Daniel Evans! We had such a beautiful day in Bali with you :( Wish this never happened. Love u so much my brother hope ur okay up there,” she wrote. “Just come back Daniel :( I miss you. Just wanna hear ur laugh one more time :( RIP”
Ms Branson’s partner Corey Grimshaw also wrote on Facebook saying he spent the day getting tattoos with Evans.
“RIP Daniel Evans. You were so good to me. Had fun with you these past few months. We were brothers I miss you so much. Come, please just wake up. We family man. You mean a lot to me Daniel. I just want 1 more hug from you and take you for a drive and let you drive,” he said on Facebook.
Kuta police chief Januartha said there was no sign of any crime having been committed.
“The victim was drunk. He smashed down the glass in the hotel which caused injuries. The victim was brought to Siloam Hospital but his life could not be saved,” Mr Januartha said.
“There is no crime that caused the death. We have asked his friends also and they also said that the victim was drunk at that time.”
The man was on holiday with three friends, all of whom have been questioned by police and given statements along with the hotel staff and duty manager.
An autopsy is needed to determine the exact cause of death, the police said.
The group was holidaying at the Harris Hotel in Kuta. They checked in on September 15 and were due to leave on September 23.
He was found at room 104 at the hotel in a serious state and was taken to Siloam Hospital by hotel staff.
The duty manager Eddy Kristov Tompodung said that he was found laying on the floor in the porch area in front of his room about 6.30pm on Wednesday. The man died in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Sanglah Hospital forensic team chief, Dr Ida Bagus Putu Alit, confirmed that police had requested an autopsy.
A number of Australians have died in Bali this month. Earlier in September two Australian surfers died in the Mentawai Islands in separate incidents and an elderly Australian man died last month from an apparent heart attack.
And it comes after a group of Bali police admitted they extorted a group of Australians on a bucks’ party trip to Bali.
In April an Australian man collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack after ordering breakfast at his hotel and another Australian woman also died at her hotel of natural causes in March.
