BRISTOL Palin says Barack Obama is “egging on” racial divisions by inviting the Muslin teen who brought a homemade clock to school to the White House.
Americans from Mark Zuckerberg to Mr Obama have rallied around Ahmed Mohamed, who was arrested and suspended from school after he brought in a homemade clock to school which was mistaken by one teacher for a bomb.
Mr Obama replied by saying, “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”
However, Bristol Palin, the 24-year-old daughter of Republican Sarah Palin, wrote on her blog that the president’s response “encourages more racial strife” and “encourages victimhood”
.
.
“This is the kind of stuff Obama needs to STAY out of,” she wrote. “The police made a mistake, clearly. But why put more people against them? Why egg it on?
“Childish games like this from our president have divided our country ... even more today than when he was elected,” she wrote.
Ahmed told Good Morning America that he hopes to take Mr Obama up on his offer to visit the White House soon.
He said he wanted to bring his clock with him but it “is still with the police.”
“I want it back with my humility,” he said.
Bristol Palin made headlines when she announced at 18 that she was pregnant to boyfriend Levi Johnson at the same time that her mother was running for US Vice President.
In June she announced that she was pregnant with her second child, news she called “a huge disappointment.”
While she hasn’t named who the father is it is believed to be former Marine and Medal of Honour recipient Dakota Meyer, who she was briefly engaged to before calling off the wedding.
